Cervical pillows, also called orthopedic pillows, have become popular in recent years as sleepers with neck pain look for solutions. The ergonomic design can help with healthy posture and neck support. As the name states, the Butterfly Button Shaped Cervical Pillow by Zamat Sleep features a butterfly shape and aims to bring sleepers relief.

There are all kinds of shapes, sizes, and types of cervical pillows out there, so how do you know if the Butterfly Shaped Cervical Pillow is the right one for you? That’s what I plan to help answer as I evaluate this pillow from its materials to its company policies. Keep reading for my full review, or skip down for a summary.

Everyone is going to have different needs and wants from their pillow depending on their sleeping position and personal preference, so let’s begin with some recommendations on who I think may and may not like the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow by Zamat Sleep.

Cervical pillows typically have a higher area where the neck is supported and a lower area where the head goes. Remember, feel is a little more subjective than some of the other qualities we test for, so you might have a different experience than I did based on our size and preferences. For reference, I’m about 5’ 4” tall and am a combination sleeper switching from my side to my back.

Your sleeping position is one of the most important factors in determining what kind of pillow is best for you. Side sleepers tend to do best with a firmer feel, back sleepers with a medium feel, and stomach sleepers with a softer feel.

I thought the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow had a medium feel and compressed around my neck and head nicely. The foam reforms pretty quickly if you move around on it and it offers solid support. There are side foam panels on the pillow, or armrests, where you can rest your arms as you sleep in different positions as well.

Another factor you’ll want to think about when shopping for a new pillow is loft. A pillow’s loft refers to its height. Each sleeping position needs a different loft for proper spinal alignment. Side sleepers do best with higher loft, back sleepers with a medium loft, and stomach sleepers with a low loft.

As I’ve noted, cervical pillows don’t have the typical pillow shape, so the loft is not consistent throughout. However, I found the center where your head goes to be about a medium loft. You have the ability to take out a center square of the pillow’s foam to lower the loft a little and you can also purchase a separate insert to make the loft higher.

With that being said, here’s what I thought about the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow in different sleeping positions.

Side — I felt the loft as the pillow comes is too low for a lot of side sleepers. It could work for lightweight side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds, but anyone weighing more than that may want to get the extra insert to raise the loft for side sleeping. This way, the pillow will keep your head lifted up and not create a dip in your neck. You can also check out our compilation of other great side sleeper pillows.

Back — I thought the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow was great for back sleeping. It was really comfortable and kept my head in place. I also like how I had cushioning around my neck. Since it keeps your head in a specific reinforced position, it could be a nice option for back sleepers who suffer from neck pain.

Stomach — I didn’t think the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow was the best for stomach sleeping, since my neck felt like it was bending. You have the ability to remove a section of the middle foam to lower the loft, but it still felt a little too high for me while stomach sleeping. Heavier sleepers weighing over 250 pounds may feel comfortable stomach sleeping on this pillow, but I’d suggest looking at one of our favorite pillows for stomach sleepers for more options.

Under the Arm — Due to its irregular shape, I don’t think this pillow is ideal for sleeping with under the arm. It’s also not designed to be an under-the-arm pillow and is intended to be a cervical support pillow.

Between the Legs — Similarly, I don’t think the pillow’s design would be the best fit for sleeping with between the legs since it is not a consistent shape throughout.

Now that we’ve gone over the feel of this pillow, let’s take a deeper look at its construction and how it can play a role in sleep quality.

Cover: The cover of the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow is made of 100 percent polyester. It has a textured, ventilated, soft fabric feel.

Fill: The fill of the pillow is a block of 100 percent polyurethane, non-temperature sensitive memory foam. It’s squishy and responsive. The poly foam is CertiPUR-US certified, which means it’s free of harmful chemicals.

The cover of the pillow is machine washable.

Hot sleepers know the value of products that sleep cool and dissipate body heat. The Butterfly Shaped Cervical Pillow’s cover feels breathable, but because it mainly consists of a solid block of foam, I don’t think it’s going to be a super cooling product.

Instead, I’d check out our best cooling pillows for more options — and also take a look at our best cooling sheets while you’re at it.

Price can be another major factor when shopping for a new pillow. See below for the prices broken down by size. All prices are listed before discounts. But to get the best price, be sure to click one of the coupons listed throughout this review.

The butterfly pillow comes in either a blue option or a blue and white option. I tested the blue and white one.

I think the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow could be a great option for back sleepers and some side sleepers. Back sleepers with neck pain could especially like its ergonomic design that offers support and keeps the spine aligned. I think the foam feels really comfy as it cradles the neck and head. A lot of customer reviews also back up this ergonomic pillow and its ability to help achieve a good night’s sleep.

It’s also a nice perk that you can remove a portion of the foam to lower the center loft of the pillow to meet your needs or purchase an additional insert to raise the loft as needed. I also like how it has a washable cover.

However, I don’t think I’d immediately recommend this pillow for a lot of stomach sleepers since it doesn’t have a low enough loft in my opinion. I also think anyone looking for a more traditional pillow may not like this butterfly design. Lastly, although I do think it has a breathable quilted cover, I don’t think it’s the best option for those who sleep really hot.

It ships for free within two to seven business days. Yes, it comes with a 100-night sleep trial period. That means you can test the pillow out at home for 30 nights and if you decide it’s not for you, you can return it for a full refund.

The company doesn’t offer a formal warranty, but says if you’re not satisfied with the pillow, you can reach out to them at [email protected] for a refund or replacement.

The cover is machine washable. Zamat Sleep says to put it through a wash cycle and then allow it to hang dry.

You can try out a pillowcase or pillow protector with the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow. However, it isn’t necessary since the cover is machine washable and it does have an irregular shape for most cases.

Zamat Sleep says the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow can promote better breathing due to its ergonomic design that follows the curve of the neck and spine. This can help keep your airways open, which could also help alleviate snoring. However, we always recommend checking with a doctor or medical professional if you have snoring concerns before trying a new product.

You can purchase the Butterfly Shaped Cervical pillow online through Zamat Sleep or on Amazon.
